Historic Charity Event Led by the Nashville Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club

Since its debut in 1961, Christmas Village has raised more than $15.5 million, positively impacting thousands of lives. Proceeds from this cherished charitable event support:

● Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee as well as scholarships for aspiring artists to attend.

The origin of Christmas Village began in 1951 when sisters Nancy Fawn Wilkerson Diehl and Jane Wilkerson Yount, siblings of Bill Wilkerson, led a fundraising effort with their Vanderbilt Pi Beta Phi sisters to support the newly opened Bill Wilkerson Center for Special Hearing and Speech Programs. The Nashville Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club embraced the initiative, and under the leadership of Berenice Miller Denton and Barbara White Fridrich, the event’s first co-chairs, a festive fundraiser called “Christmas Fairyland” was launched. This one-day event featured holiday displays by local merchants and raised $1,020 for the Center.

By 1961 that one day event grew into Christmas Village, a four day holiday shopping tradition featuring over 250 merchants and drawing more than 30,000 shoppers each year. Today, it stands as one of the premier holiday markets in the Southeast.

Your continued support helps fund vital services in hearing, speech, and education, making a lasting impact in our community.
