Arts + Urban Futures

The red doors of the Curb Center

Arts + Urban Futures is a community of practice for Nashville’s arts leaders convened by the Curb Center.

Arts and Urban Futures serves as a convening space and professional development resource for leaders and administrators in Nashville’s local arts organizations. The content of our sessions is guided by two driving questions: (1) what would a thriving arts ecosystem in Nashville look like? and (2) what is a resilient arts organization? We engage arts leaders in this inquiry through structured discussions and hands-on workshops on topics including:

  • Challenges confronting Nashville arts sector
  • Intraorganizational dynamics in the arts sector
  • History of arts funding and advocacy for the arts sector in Nashville
  • Program evaluation in arts organizations
  • Applying the Critical Response Process within arts organizations
  • Artistic journalism and mechanisms for public arts critique
  • Arts-based solutions to civic problems
  • Supportive structures and collaborations within arts ecosystems in other cities

As a community of learning and practice, AUF supports artists and arts organization leaders in identifying information needs and gaps, investigating critical questions, and building relationships toward the advancement of collective desires for an equitable, just, and thriving urban arts infrastructure. See the Curb Center Main Events Calendar for information on upcoming convenings.

Arts and Urban Futures is a collaboration between the Curb Center and Curb faculty fellow, Jyoti Gupta, professor in Peabody’s Department of Human and Organizational Development. Please reach out for more information about AUF or to suggest ideas for upcoming sessions.
