Lessons learned from Yucca Mountain: 1) Look at the entire process of mining, reprocessing & waste disposal. Look at environmental effects and economic factors. 2) Site selection needs to be an open, transparent process with full public involvement. 3) The licensing paradigm for the site needs to be sound and long term uncertainties acknowledged. 4) Risk factors in disposing of different types of waste need to be harmonized. 5) Determine reasonable obligations to future generations.
