Country music star Kix Brooks honored for dedication to young Vanderbilt patients
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Country music star Kix Brooks was honored Wednesday for his continued support of patients at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Kix, a member of the duo Brooks & Dunn, received a star on the Walk of Champions for his dedication to the hospital's patients and his philanthropic efforts in the community.
President of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt Margaret Rush introduced Brooks to the stage.
"Kix brought the music industry and helped us, not just at Monroe Carell but actually at Vanderbilt, marry music and healing," Rush said. "And that has touched lives not just in this building, but across our campus. He has been a true leader, in our community as we know, a friend and partner for us and we are so grateful..."
Brooks took the stage and said he feels blessed to be honored, but is truly in awe of the doctors, nurses and staff who dedicate their lives to working at Monroe Carell everyday.
"I can in all honesty say I have never been so humbled with anything as this," Brooks says.
He continued to say he is blown away by the courage and strength of the kids battling sickness or disease, adding that as a parent, he sympathizes with their parents.
"God bless all of you," Brooks says. "I have two healthy grown kids now that I'm really proud of, and I know as a parent there's really nothing tougher than having to face whatever when your kids aren't well and are struggling."
Brooks speech ended with the kids at Monroe Carell helping him unveil his star on the Walk of Champions.
Brooks has hosted or participated in various fundraising activities benefiting the children's hospital including the Arrington Vineyards Harvest Party, Celebrity Golf Classic and the Growing to New Heights Campaign, to name a few.
The Walk of Champions celebrates entertainment industry advocates for Monroe Carell.
