There have been more than one million lifesaving transplants in the United States. Every lifesaving transplant reflects the generosity of donors and their families who said “yes” to donation, and the strength of our nation’s donation and transplant system, where safe, high-quality care is the standard. We are deeply grateful to the millions of registered and living donors, donor families, and the many doctors, nurses, and professionals who help make the gift of life possible.
At Donate Life America, our mission is to educate, inspire and activate people to say “yes” to organ, eye and tissue donation. To fulfill that mission, public trust in donor registration, the donation process, and fair access to transplant care is essential.
As the organization that manages the National Donate Life Registry, we believe people should feel confident and in control of their donor registration. The decision to register as an organ, eye and tissue donor is voluntary, respected and can be updated or removed at any time.
The issues raised during the House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee hearing on December 2, 2025, warrant careful, evidence-based review by clinical, ethical, and policy experts.
As these matters are examined, we support efforts that strengthen transparency and meaningful process updates, and we believe those efforts should be guided by accurate information and the expertise of the professionals who do this work every day.
We understand that the allegations discussed may be unsettling to hear. At the same time, the United States continues to be one of the global leaders in organ donation and transplantation, with dedicated professionals who work every day to ensure the care, safety, and dignity of both donors and recipients. Organ donation is an extraordinary act of kindness that brings hope to the more than 100,000 people waiting for a transplant. We remain focused on strengthening this lifesaving mission while honoring the compassion and generosity of everyone who chooses to Donate Life.
