Additional Restrictions on Order Modes
On Oct. 30, additional restrictions regarding order entry will go into effect. These restrictions build on system changes that were implemented in October 2018. Analysis showed that there are continued uses of “within clinical scope” for actions that require provider initiation (e.g., nurses ordering medications, laboratory tests or imaging).
These restrictions will help ensure that staff practice within the scope of their professional role and a provider co-signature is prompted when appropriate. Restrictions will affect the “within clinical scope” mode. The changes will also impact the “lab recollect” and “flu/pneumococcal vaccine” modes if labs or vaccines that require a provider order are entered using those modes.
Please view Tip Sheet “Order Mode Restrictions” for more information.
