eStar special update scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 14

The eStar team will be implementing a series of approved changes to the new system between 1 and 4 a.m. this Sunday, Jan. 14. This update will require approximately three hours of system downtime, during which teams should use standard downtime procedures.

This special update is the first in a series of regularly-scheduled updates that will take place every two months. Due to the fact that this weekend’s update is the first to be implemented since eStar was activated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), this particular update will be rather small in comparison to future special updates. The next update, which will take place in March, will be much larger in size.

eStar users can expect to see the following changes as a result of this Sunday’s special update:

  • Children’s Emergency Department (ED)/Labor and Delivery (L&D): Users will be able to share Hospital Account Records (HARs) across locations. In this instance, users will be able to transfer patients from the children’s hospital ED to the adult hospital’s L&D department without creating an entirely separate encounter.
  • Children’s Access Center: An issue in which users in the Children’s Access Center were finding ED track board reports to be cut off at the bottom will be fixed.
  • Anesthesia: The Intake/Output section in the post-procedure navigator will have new buttons to help anesthesia providers navigate their workflows with fewer clicks.
  • Radiation oncology: Clinicians will be able to see radiation oncology information via Hyperspace. Print groups, navigator sections, flowsheet parts and SmartLinks that currently show information from MOSAIQ will also show information from ARIA.
  • Therapy plans/oncology treatment plans: Users will be able to automatically remove a medication that was placed on hold on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) when the hold on the corresponding treatment or therapy plan is removed.
  • InBasket: With new completion matching support functionality, users will no longer need to type exact pool names to select InBasket pools in eStar.
  • ePrescribing: The options for defaulting pharmacies will be modified to give users more direct control over which pharmacies appear in the pharmacy association grid by default. This will reduce the amount of time that it takes for clinicians to look up frequently used pharmacies.
  • Technical: This update also contains a range of technical fixes related to security, printing and memory.
