IdeaShare seeking ideas on artificial intelligence, predictive analytics throughout the Medical Center
IdeaShare, a fun, interactive online tool that enables us to share ideas with colleagues across the Medical Center, is collecting ideas on how Vanderbilt can use artificial intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics to improve patient care and our health system.
Since IdeaShare re-opened last week, more than 52 colleagues have submitted 68 ideas, which have resulted in 875 page views, 32 comments and 209 “likes.”
Ideas that have been shared include:
- Deploy float teams and people in areas based on predictions of potential demand and on-demand indicators of need.
- Translate dictation live in the visit to a draft encounter summary ready for edits and attestation.
- Use a current note, past data on a patient, and historical data on similar patients to offer clinicians new prescriptions and laboratory tests for consideration.
What is AI?
AI is the use of computing techniques to create systems that learn and reason with minimal, and often no, assistance from humans. In some cases, such as the detection of melanoma in images, modern AI techniques have reached, or even exceeded, the abilities of clinical experts. More generally, AI has proven to be exceedingly valuable in supporting human decision making.
What are predictive analytics?
Predictive analytics uses data to learn models that can identify the likely outcomes from a particular course of action. This can enable humans to make better decisions.
How can you help?
Now through April 15, everyone at VUMC can participate and share their ideas – no idea is too small.
Think about the places where you wish technology could act as your clone, or where technology could tell you something that is beyond the ability for a human to determine. In either case, where could these ideas bring value to our patients and the Medical Center?
Any level of participation – sharing, commenting or “liking” ideas – is valuable, and can be done quickly and easily using your desktop and mobile devices.
Top ideas will be shared with leadership teams for development in fiscal year 2019.
Begin sharing your ideas today, and tell your colleagues to do the same. To get started, visit www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/strategic-directions/.
