VUMC in the news

A roundup of a few recent stories from the press about Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, spoke with reporter Rhonda Fanning of Texas Standard about cyclospora and how to avoid being sickened by contaminated vegetables. Schaffner was also quoted in a People story about the new shingles vaccine.

A Politico story, “Drugmakers defy Trump’s call to drop prices” quotes Stacie Dusetzina, PhD, associate professor of Health Policy.

David Edwards, MD, assistant professor of Anesthesiology, is quoted in a Tennessean piece about the impact of the closures of pain clinics throughout the state operated by Comprehensive Pain Specialists, based in Brentwood. One potential effect is that patients of the chain of clinics who are no longer able to obtain opioids will switch to heroin.

WZTV Fox 17 reported on VUMC treating hundreds of people on site for heat-related illness at the July 4 celebration in downtown Nashville.
