A roundup of a few recent stories from the press about Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

CNN reported a story on hand, foot and mouth disease in the wake of New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard going on the disabled list with the disease. The piece quoted William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine. Schaffner also spoke to Reader's Digest reporter Carrie Madormo for a story about scary diseases you didn’t know you could catch at the beach.

MedicalResearch.com editor Marie Benz interviewed Aurelio Galli, PhD, professor of Psychiatry, for a story about his PLOS study, “Bile diversion, a bariatric surgery, and bile acid signaling reduce central cocaine reward.”

Health.com reporter Amanda Gardner interviewed Ronald Alvarez, MD, professor and chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, for a story about the health risks/benefits associated with number of children/total amount of time pregnant. Alvarez discussed the reduction in ovarian cancer risk with increased number of pregnancies.
