eStar to mask names for Persons of Interest starting today
To best protect the privacy of patients with Person of Interest (POI) designation (celebrities, public figures and other individuals as designated) who are receiving care at VUMC and to help manage HIPAA risk for VUMC, the names of patients with POI designation will display with asterisks, instead of their full name, on Patient List and Unit Manager displays. This change will go into effect on Sept. 13.
Users with a patient care or other appropriate need can access the patient record by double-clicking within the selected patient, after which a “Break-the-Glass” pop-up window will appear. After the user completes the requested information and clicks accept, the patient's real name will appear in the header.
The Break the Glass functionality will trigger a real-time audit by the Privacy Office to ensure appropriate access.
