eStar Updates and Changes cover special manipulations to blood products; require naming of attending provider on discharge

Updates to Special Manipulations for Blood Products

Beginning April 21, Special manipulations for blood products will no longer default to “none.” Additionally, these selections will carry forward to future encounters. These two changes should help improve clinician workflow and will affect all users who order blood products.

When ordering blood products, users must select a Special Manipulation or Update based on the patient's condition. These selections will appear on the patient’s future encounters (they will be pre-selected. Clinicians should review these pre-selected diagnosis selections for continued accuracy from encounter to encounter.

Confirmation of Attending Now Required when Updating Team or Discharging Patient

Beginning April 21:

  • Updating team or level of care now requires entering the name of new attending physician (all sites)
  • Attending physician will be confirmed when entering discharge order (VUAH only)

These changes allow orders to be routed to the correct provider and will help improve coordination of care after discharge. They will impact all users who place update team orders, and VUAH users who discharge patients.

When an update team order is entered, the attending physician field will need to be completed.

When a discharge order is entered at VUAH, the attending physician field will be part of the order. The user will need to update that field if inaccurate, and confirm that it is correct before signing order.

Clinicians should ensure that attending physician is accurate during hospitalization and at discharge.
