eStar updates and changes

Date Change: Removal of “Sedation” from MRI Orders

Beginning May 12, the “sedation” option will no longer appear when placing an order for an MRI. This change was originally supposed to go into production on May 5, but was delayed.

User should instead select “Anesthesia” if patient requires any type of sedation or anesthesia. The appropriate resources will then be scheduled. This change is necessary to properly assign anesthesia resources and will impact all users who place orders for MRIs

New ADT Notifications for PCPs and Clinicians Identified by Patients

As of April 29, admission/discharge/transfer (ADT) notifications will be sent to clinicians as identified by patient upon a hospital admission or ED visit in a VUMC facility. This change will:

  • Promote better interoperability among healthcare providers

  • Support improved visibility among disparate care team members

  • Compliance with key parts of 21st Century Cures Act

Currently, primary care providers (PCPs) and those clinicians who have opted in for specific patients receive notifications of patient’s admission to a Vanderbilt hospital. With this change, clinicians will now receive ADT notifications of all major inpatient events, including:

  • ED visits

  • Hospital admissions

  • Hospital discharges

  • Inpatient status changes (e.g., to observation)

VUMC clinicians will receive notifications in their “Admissions Notifications” folder within In Basket.

  • Notifications will “nest” so all notifications related to the same inpatient stay will appear in the same In Basket message

  • If clinician opens the message, additional updates related to that patient’s inpatient stay will appear as separate message

Clinicians receiving these updates include:

  • PCPs

  • Clinicians who have elected to receive notifications for specific patients

  • All clinicians (including specialists) identified by patients at time of their hospital admission

  • Non-VUMC (including referring) clinicians identified by patients at time of their hospital admission

--If a clinician is not already in the Provider Facility Directory (PFD), the identified clinician will be added in accordance with existing PFD process
