Infectious Diseases-COVID consult service to begin Aug. 12
Starting Aug. 12, a new consultative service will be available to assist with the evaluation and management of hospitalized COVID-19 infected patients. Consults may be requested by any team but are highly encouraged for COVID-19 patients admitted to non-Medicine teams to assist with appropriate laboratory testing, therapeutic recommendations, and approval of restricted treatments (e.g., COVID-19 monoclonal antibody therapy, remdesivir, or baricitinib).
Consults on COVID-19 patients hospitalized on floor or stepdown units may be ordered through e-Star using the “Inpatient Consult to Infectious Diseases, COVID” option. Patients in ICU-status outside the MICU will be discussed at a daily COVID-19 huddle and generally won’t require an additional ID-COVID consultation. Rheumatology will continue to be the appropriate consulting team for questions regarding multisystem inflammatory syndrome of adults (MIS-A). Consults for unrelated infections (eg, bacteremia) on COVID-19 infected patients should continue to be directed to the general or transplant Infectious Diseases services as appropriate.
