COVID-19 asymptomatic admission testing guidance to change

Due to the rising number of cases due to the delta variant, VUMC will resume SARS-CoV-2 asymptomatic testing for all patients upon admission effective Thursday, Aug.12, including those patients who have been fully vaccinated. Patients may be admitted to an inpatient room if an asymptomatic screening test is pending with the exception that those with a pending test cannot be admitted to a semi-private room or placed in a hallway bed.  While fully vaccinated persons are 8-times less likely to get infected with the delta variant, added precautions are necessary to help curb the current case trends. 

Changes to pre-procedural asymptomatic testing will also be expanding in the coming weeks to include fully vaccinated patients with a go-live date to be announced soon.
