eStar update: New consult order for pharmacogenomics
A new pharmacogenomics eConsult service became available on May 6. The new service supports clinicians who get pharmacogenomics best practice alerts (BPAs) or are interested in ordering the panel test. The new consult service will help reduce concerns about interpreting gene results and encourage clinicians to use the PREDICT panel test.
Clinicians can order a consult if they have questions about whether pharmacogenomic testing is clinically indicated, or if they have concerns that the BPA recommendation did not address for their patient. The consult option is easily accessible within the recently launched SSRI and ondansetron BPAs and is available in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
If clinicians have questions on whether testing is appropriate, they can also order a consult outside of the BPAs. A dedicated pharmacist will answer the consult requests.
