eStar update: New checks for release of lab orders

Beginning May 27, two new checks on the release of lab orders will appear in eStar. These checks help prevent lab billing orders and ensure that lab resources are used appropriately.

The first check ensures lab orders are only released in appropriate encounters (e.g., office visits, hospital encounters). If the lab order should not be released due to an incorrect encounter type, the user will receive an error message. The user should then select the appropriate encounter type, in which the patient is present and the lab order can be performed.

The second check ensures lab orders placed during an outpatient encounter can only be released after check-in. If the patient has not been checked in, the user will receive an error message and should work with front desk staff to ensure the patient is checked in.
