New imaging and radiology system launched at VUMC

In the early morning hours of Oct. 25, two new interrelated systems went live at the Medical Center: SECTRA, VUMC’s official system for storing, managing and viewing images, and Radiant, a new eStar module just for Radiology, known as Radiant.

The launch of the new systems represents about 18 months of planning and preparation. Teams from HealthIT, VUMC IT, Radiology, clinical leadership and others extensively collaborated to best ensure a smooth transition to Radiant and SECTRA.

Users across the Medical Center now have new tools to view study images. SECTRA UniView (its "light" client) has replaced XERO Viewer and VueMotion (VWCH). SECTRA IDS7 (its "thick" client) has replaced IMPAX.

Clinicians who access images directly from the patient's chart in eStar may continue to do so -- UniView will automatically display the image from the hyperlink. An optional UniView eLearning is currently available in the Learning Exchange: PACS Online: Online Enterprise PACS Web Viewer. For those clinicians who do not receive in-person Sectra training, but anticipate using the thick client (IDS7) of Sectra, an eLearning is available in the Learning Exchange: PACS Online: Radiant Sectra IDS7

At-the-elbow support is available to help VUMC colleagues answer questions, prioritize issues and enter tickets on their behalf. These individuals will wear a special button identifying them as a member of the support team).

Tickets are being managed by the Help Desk and triaged by the 24/7 Command Center, which will comprise both technical and operational expertise. Every day, the Command Centers will create a series of top issues that will be prioritized.

A daily snapshot of the work of the Command Center is available on the program website:  https://healthit.vumc.org/radiant-epacs-implementation. It is also available in the vumc2go app.
