QuizTime app seeks to improve opioid prescribing practices

This summer, health care workers and pharmacists across the state of Tennessee will have the opportunity to join the fight against the opioid crisis by participating in a novel continuing education program. Sponsored by grant funding awarded to the Tennessee Department of Health, ROUTE+ONE (Reducing Opioid Use Through Education) is a partnership between One Tennessee, a non-profit organization dedicated to curbing the opioid epidemic, and a team of doctors, educators, and information technologists at Vanderbilt University Medical Center who work with an education app called QuizTime.

The QuizTime app delivers one quiz question a day by email or text to participating health professionals. The app provides immediate feedback, along with rationales and links to resources. Based on 12 competencies identified by the Tennessee Commission on Pain and Addiction Medicine Education, the 20 question ROUTE+ONE quiz provides up to 5 continuing education credits and meets state licensing requirements for doctors, nurses and pharmacists.  Education researchers at VUMC have piloted this method of continuing education and found that those who take the quiz improve their opioid prescribing practices.  They also found a high level of satisfaction among participating clinicians. ROUTE +ONE  strives to enhance the wellness of all Tennesseans by combating addiction and saving lives, while providing relevant, timely and enjoyable education experiences to health professionals. Eligible professionals may enroll at https://quiztimehealth.com/enroll-route-one
