eStar Update: Managing ABN alerts for diagnostic labs

Some diagnostic lab orders may trigger an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN). Beginning September 4, clicking on Waiver Form allows specimen-receiving staff in the Diagnostic Lab to select a specific override ABN reason. This ABN reason has been approved through compliance to provide the appropriate audit tracking.

  1. When an order triggers an ABN, click on Waiver Form to address the notice.
  2. In the Advance Notice Form window, select the magnifying glass next to the Notice status field to open the Category Select options.
  3. Choose Billed to Client, no ABN required (Diagnostic Lab) and Accept.
  4. Upon returning to the Advance Notice Form window, select Accept again.
  5. The order can now be signed
