Second Missionary Baptist Cooperative Ministries, Meharry Medical College, and Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center developed an educational program for
African American men to reduce cancers and cancer disparities associated with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in Middle Tennessee. Community partners participated in research trainings, while the academic partners learned how to engage and recruit African American men for research. African American men provided insight on their educational needs, preferred information sources, and channels to receive the program. This work led to the first cancer summit for African American men. The presenters will detail how the partnership developed and how the mutually-beneficial goals were achieved.
