CBS News interviewed William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, regarding an outbreak of E.coli linked to romaine lettuce from Salinas, California. Schaffner also was quoted in a story in Popular Science about how a warmer global climate could create a perpetual flu season, and in Scientific American about dangers of the flu to people with chronic health conditions.
CNN producer Allen Kim interviewed Ashish Shah, MD, professor and chair of Cardiac Surgery, for a story about Duke University performing the first Donors After Circulatory Death (DCD) adult heart transplant in the U.S.
“PBS NewsHour” health producer Jason Kane and health reporter Sarah Varney interviewed Shari Barkin, MD, MSHS, chief of General Pediatrics at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. The national nightly news program is producing a segment on the decreasing number of children enrolled in Medicaid. A patient family was also included. The piece is expected to run before Christmas.
