VWCH celebrates the season of giving
Employees from Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital celebrated the season of giving by doing just that — giving back to those in their local community.
Throughout December, the hospital banded together to collect food donations for Joseph’s Storehouse Food Ministry in Lebanon, Tennessee, which serves individuals throughout Wilson County. The collection, organized by staff in the hospital’s human resources department, garnered more than 200 canned goods plus boxes of dry food for those in need.
“Every month, we see hundreds of individuals who rely on the food distribution to help feed their families. Your contribution of the food drive you held helps us feed many less fortunate families in our community,” Peggy Evans, executive director of Joseph’s Storehouse, penned in a thank-you note to employees.
The hospital’s department of Women’s Services also collected personal items to support individuals serving in the military during the holiday season. Employees organized a donation of hygiene products, puzzles, cooling cloths, snacks and handwritten holiday cards for Music City Blue Star Moms, a nonprofit made up of female legal guardians of individuals serving in the military.
The department decorated its tree in honor of the troops and presented the donation to Diana Coleman, member of Music City Blue Star Moms, at its annual holiday party.
“This team is a very loving and giving group of people with such big hearts,” said Laura Williams-Marcum, MSN, RN, director of Women’s Services at VWCH. “Diana was overwhelmed and very grateful to receive these items so that they can ship them to soldiers.”
