NPR’s “On Point” show interviewed William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, live on Tuesday as one of the guests for an hour-long show on the flu. Also coming up on NPR, Schaffner was interviewed for an upcoming “Morning Edition” story about a study that showed patient reminders through text, phone, email and mail increased vaccination rates by 8 percent. Schaffner was also quoted in a CNN report on flu complications.
The New York Times, as part of its coverage of the school shooting in Benton, Kentucky, interviewed Jeanne Yeatman, MBA, EMT, program director of Lifeflight; Oscar Guillamondeugi, MD, medical director of the Trauma Unit; and Rick Miller, MD, director of the Trauma Unit, for a story about school shootings in rural areas and small towns and the challenges of getting medical care to the victims. Miller was quoted in this piece.
WSMV News 4 interviewed Jeff Balser, MD, PhD, President and CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, for a story about the NEJM Catalyst event held at the Student Life Center on Thursday.
U.S. News & World Report health editor Michael Schroeder interviewed Kevin Osteen, MD, director of the Women's Reproductive Health Research Center, for a story about types of environmental pollution that pose a threat to the fetus during pregnancy and can cause low birth weight or birth defects.
Associated Press national reporter Jeff Horowitz interviewed William Cooper, MD, professor and vice chair of Pediatrics, and William Swiggart, co-director of the Center for Professional Health, for a story about the treatment of professionals with sexual misconduct allegations against them.
Children’s Hospital patients, families, staff and community partners came together for "Haute in the Hospital," an art therapy event which allowed participants to design their own small piece of a hospital gown. The pieces will be sewn together into a custom gown, which will be displayed during Nashville Fashion Week in April. WTVF News Channel 5 covered the event.
