Save the date: Vanderbilt International Anesthesia Fundraiser is April 21 at Dyer Observatory
The Vanderbilt International Anesthesia (VIA) annual fundraiser will be held April 21 at Dyer Observatory from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event supports efforts to support anasthesia training, care and research in low-resource settings. The VIA was initially started to support resdients' rotations to the Department of Anesthesia’s longstanding training outreach program in Kijabe, Kenya.
Through 2017, more than 50 people, including faculty members, residents, fellows, CRNAs and others, have traveled to Kijabe, and others are scheduled to go this year. The department also regularly has employees travel to Guatemala.
The VIA works to improve perioperative care in the facilities, institutions and countries it serves by expanding the knowledge and skills of anesthesia care providers who work there. These educational experiences may include lectures to local medical staff on practical and theoretical topics in both the clinical and classroom environment. Alternatively, bi-directional exchanges for extended periods may also achieve more advanced training goals.
Tickets to the event, which will include entertainment and a silent and live auction, will be available soon.
