NIH S10 Instrumentation Programs announced for 2018
Deadline Extended - VUMC Internal Proposals due April 2
Overview:
The NIH S10 program encourages applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase or upgrade a single item of expensive, specialized, commercially available instrumentation or an integrated system. Types of instruments supported by S10 funding include, but are not limited to X-ray diffraction systems, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometers, DNA and protein sequencers, biosensors, electron and confocal microscopes, cell-sorters, and biomedical imagers.
VUMC investigators who intend to apply to any of the three S10 programs should submit an internal proposal for review. An internal proposal is required for projects that will request matching funds. Proposals submitted in collaboration with an SOM core facility or shared resource will be prioritized for matching funds.

- Budget range for the SIG: $50,000 - $600,000
- High-End Instrumentation Grant (HEI) Program:
- Budget range for the HEI: $600,001 - $2,000,000
- Shared Instrumentation for Animal Research (SIFAR) Grant Program:
- Budget range for the SIFAR: $50,000 - $750,000
- SIFAR began in 2017 to support technologies needed for NIH-funded research using vertebrate or invertebrate animals. Awards should enhance the scientific rigor and improve the reproducibility of experimental outcomes for animal research.
Internal Proposal Submission:
VUMC investigators should complete the VUMC S10 Internal Proposal Form: https://is.gd/VUMC_S10_2018
Internal proposals are due no later than 5 p.m. on April 2. Late submissions may be ineligible for matching funds. Contact Amy Martinez (VUMC, amy.f.martinez@vanderbilt.edu) with any questions about the program requirements, eligibility or institutional process.
VU Investigators with primary appointments in any VU department should fill out the VU REDCap survey for S10 pre-proposals. Contact Anthony Tharp (VU Basic Sciences) or Liane Moneta-Koehler (All non-SOM VU departments).
