VUMC in the news

A roundup of a few recent stories from the press about Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Associated Press national reporter Lindsey Tanner interviewed William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, for a story about his Pediatrics study on outcomes of children born with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) in Tennessee. Schaffner also spoke to Stat reporter Damian Garde for a story about former CDC Director Tom Frieden’s arrest for sexual misconduct. Washington Post reporter Amu Goldstein also interviewed Schaffner for this story.

 The Tennessean health reporter Brett Kelman interviewed Peter Konrad, MD, director of Functional Neurological Surgery, and David Charles, MD, vice chair of Neurology, along with other faculty and patients, for a story about the VUMC Neurology study on DBS for Parkinson's disease in early-stage treatment. Physician’s Weekly managing editor Christopher Cole also interviewed Charles about the study.

Healthline.com reporter Shawn Radcliffe interviewed Deepak Gupta, MD, assistant professor of Medicine, for a story about a about a recent study in The Lancet on community sodium intake and cardiovascular disease risk.
