VUMC sources quoted by New York Times, PBS News Hour, Wall Street Journal, more

William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, continues to be one of the most in-demand sources about COVID-19, influenza and other subjects in the news. Among the news organizations he has spoken with recently: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Sinclair Broadcast Group, The Deseret News, Health and Healthline.

A PBS NewsHour piece on unrealistically high expectations for COVID vaccines quotes Kathryn Edwards, MD, Sarah H. Sell and Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Pediatrics. Edwards is also quoted in a Kaiser Health News story on people who help the CDC track vaccine safety with smart phones.

The Wall Street Journal reporter Jared Hopkins interviewed Buddy Creech, MD, director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program, and Pierce Sandwith, parent of participant Caroline Sandwith, for a story about what's motivating parents to enroll their young children in the 12 and under vaccine trials. Creech also was quoted in a Healthline piece about COVID vaccines and children under 12.

Ellen Wright Clayton, JD, MD, Craig-Weaver Professor of Pediatrics, was one of the authors of a Politico opinion piece about the concept of “parental rights,” and that parents do not have the right to put their children in harm’s way.
