Educator Development Program expanding with new team leaders, offerings
After 12 years, the Educator Development Program (EDP) is expanding. The new expanded team will increase EDP activities and venues to reach more faculty, trainees, and students across the medical center. The EDP has long served as an outstanding source of educational resources related to medical education and faculty development.
The EDP leadership team starts the 2020 academic year with four new team leaders:
- Travis Crook, MD- Co-Director, EDP Scholars Program
- Leora Horn, MD, MSc Team Leader for EDP Medical Education Consult Service
- Janice Law, MD-Team Leader for Clinical Peer Reviews
- Mario Davidson, PhD- Team Leader for Classroom Peer Reviews
Crook, Horn, Law and Davidson have provided contributions to the EDP and other educational initiatives at VUMC over the years and are outstanding medical educators. The new leadership team is also joined by several newly trained EDP facilitators to lead workshops and webinars throughout the year.
These four will join Charlene Dewey, MD and Julie Damp, MD, to continue the EDP mission in providing high quality faculty development initiatives and assist with the expanded initiatives across the Medical Center.
The newly expanded initiatives allow more faculty to take advantage of EDP offerings. Targeted areas of expansion include the EDP consultation service, clinical and classroom peer reviews, more department specific training programs and retreats, and flexible learning venues such as a new webinar series: Teaching Tips at 12:20. The EDP Scholars Program also expanded to accepted the highest number of faculty in a cohort for the 2020-22 class.
All previous services, such as the Residents as Teachers and Leaders (RATL) program, career mentoring, and the annual HPERD program are still available.
