eStar Upgrade Spotlights: The Brain, Avatar, Ambulatory Visit Taskbar and Inbasket
eStar Upgrade Spotlight: The Brain
An exciting new feature coming to eStar on April 7 is the Brain. The Brain acts as an interactive “To Do” list for inpatient nurses and will have a positive impact on shift planning and documentation.
In the Brain, elements of Patient Lists, Work Lists, Required Documentation, Medication Administration, Specimen Collection and Appointments can be viewed in one place. The new feature allows nurses to better plan their days, and it is also interactive – nurses can complete their work directly from The Brain. Learn more about the Brain on the HealthIT website.
eStar Upgrade Spotlight: Avatar
Another new feature coming on April 7 is the Avatar, which allows clinicians and nurses to better document, identify and review the placement of lines, drains, airways and wounds on patients. The Avatar is an illustration of a human and can appear as (depending on the patient) male, female or a young child. Learn more about Avatar on the HealthIT website.
eStar Upgrade Spotlight: Ambulatory Visit Taskbar
The Visit Taskbar is a clinician's new home for placing and signing new orders in office visit encounters and also orders-only encounters. It is now the primary order placement and management tool. The Medications and Orders section is available only to modify or reorder existing orders (the order search bar has been removed from this section).
Any orders placed by a clinician are kept in a collapsible window until they are ready to be signed. The taskbar and the window follow the clinician through the encounter and the patient's chart, regardless of the activity the clinician is in, such as Chart Review or Notes.

eStar Upgrade Spotlight: Inbasket
There are several enhancements coming to Inbaskets with the April 7 update. One of the most significant changes will be new priority-driven due dates for communications. Clinical users can set priorities as follows:
- High-priority: due in six hours
- Routine: due in two days
- Low: due in five days
Overdue messages will now appear as red, and users can now sort and filter messages based on priority.
Additional updates to Inbasket include:
- Consolidated location for medication refill requests
- More intuitive ways to reply directly to a pool
- Simplified process for reminder messages
- With pool messages, new workflow for "passing the baton" to someone who is working on the message but is not necessarily responsible for signing off on a message
