Support group beginning for newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis patients
A support group for patients with newly diagnosed multiple sclerosis (MS) is being organized. The group is a joint venture with the Vanderbilt Comprehensive Multiple Sclerosis Center and the National MS Society. The group will be led by an MS neurologist and a clinical research nurse.
The purpose is to bring together patients within the first three years of receiving a diagnosis of MS. Topics are meant to be educational, supportive and provide resources to live well with MS. Meetings will be held quarterly on Thursday evenings. Here are the dates/topics for the first year:
5/2/2019: Kickoff meeting: MS basics: Patient perspectives and doctor/nurse Q&A
8/1/2019: Managing troubling MS symptoms
11/7/2019: Strategies for Wellness
2/6/2020: Managing finances and employment issues
The group is open to any newly diagnosed MS patient and is not restricted to Vanderbilt patients. Location is at Vanderbilt One Hundred Oaks campus, main entrance, first floor conference room.
The programs will be held 5-6:30 p.m., and will include dinner or refreshments prior to the program. This event is free.
