A roundup of a few recent stories from the press about Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

USA Today published a story about the suicide rate among teenagers that quotes from a recent Vanderbilt study highlighting the large increase in school-age children and adolescents hospitalized for suicidal thoughts or attempts.

Newsweek posted a story noting that this year’s flu season was deadliest for children, most of whom weren’t vaccinated. William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, was quoted in the piece. Self magazine reporter Korin Miller interviewed Schaffner for a story about a woman who died after contracting hepatitis A from frozen pomegranate seeds. 

A Science story about the high rate of infant HIV infection in Nigeria quotes Muktar Aliyu, DrPH, MPH, associate professor of Health Policy and associate director for research in the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health.

NBC Nightly News interviewed William Bernet, MD, professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Emeritus, for a story about the case of Cyntoia Brown, a trafficking victim serving a life sentence for murder.
