eStar changes and updates: New Micromedex with Watson Assistant
To improve efficiency in medication knowledge, ordering and administration, a new Micromedex with Watson Assistant will be available in eStar beginning January 13.
The assistant will be available to all eStar users who order, administer or oversee medications in adult locations (pediatric locations have been omitted from the Watson tool, because it does not meet Vanderbilt’s level of detail for pediatric information provided).
Users can access the Watson Assistant from Main Toolbar, and ask Watson drug information questions from the eStar sidebar.
-
Watson is in medical residency and can answer many drug information questions
-
System learns from interaction with users and will be able to answer more sophisticated questions over time
-
Searching learns from thumbs up/thumbs down to improve information provided over time
-
Dosing and treatment information defaults to ADULT information
-
Answers are currently limited to:
-
Drug information (e.g., drug classes, dosing, administration, medication safety, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, about)
-
Drug interactions
-
IV compatibility
Please review the Quick Start Guide “Accessing Micromedex with Watson Assistant in Epic“ (located in Hubbl) for more information.
