VUMC sources quoted by New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, more

The biggest international news story from VUMC last week was the visit by Dolly Parton to get a COVID vaccine. The Moderna vaccine, which was developed by a research group including the lab of Mark Denison, MD, the E.C. Stahlman Professor of Pediatrics and director of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, used funds from a donation from Parton for early research into the vaccine. The stories also mention the friendship between Parton and Naji Abumrad, MD, professor of Surgery, who gave her the vaccine. Among the many outlets covering the story were: NPR, The New York Times, NBC News, The Washington Post, BBC News, Billboard, and ABC News.

William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, continues to be one of the most in-demand sources about COVID-19, influenza and other subjects in the news. Among the news organizations he has spoken with recently: The New York Times, CNN, HealthDay, Reuters, USA Today and Prevention magazine.

Buddy Creech, associate professor of pediatrics and director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program, is quoted in stories about COVID vaccines at the Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, Healthline, NBC News and ABC News.

Keipp Talbot, MD, MPH, associate professor of Medicine, was quoted in stories about the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine in The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times.
