Request for proposals: VUSM Faculty Advancing Medical Education (FAME) fellowship; deadline is April 5

Vanderbilt University School of Medicine is pleased to issue this call for proposals for the final funding round of the Faculty Advancing Medical Education (FAME) fellowship. This opportunity for medical educators will allow them to ELEVATE their efforts in creating learning programs that align with the needs of patients, populations and the health system. It will provide two selected faculty members or teams with $12,500 per year for two years to develop and implement new programs, take existing programs to the next level or scale up programs that they already have piloted successfully.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be faculty members at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, employed by either Vanderbilt University or Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
  • Individuals or teams may submit proposals.
  • Applicants should have significant experience as educators, with evidence of successful curricular innovation in the past.
  • Prior FAME fellows will not be eligible.

Priorities:

Priority will be given to proposals that align with Vanderbilt’s vision of creating a “healthcare system of learning” and can focus on any phase of physician education. Specifically this includes (but is not limited to) projects that aim to:

  • Facilitate and enhance learning and assessment in the workplace.
  • Develop and measure ways in which learner contributions add value to the care of patients, panels and systems.
  • Develop novel methods of technology-enhanced learning.
  • Optimize the learning environment for diverse groups of learners.

Application process: Applications must include:

  • A written proposal (including references) consisting of no more than five single-spaced pages (Arial 11 font with ½- inch margins) describing the project and its intended outcomes.
  • A brief budget indicating how the funds will be used. The funds may be used for non-faculty salary support (but not faculty salary support), supplies or services that would facilitate successful implementation of the proposal.
  • A letter of support from the applicant’s department chair.
  • A letter of support from a senior faculty educator at Vanderbilt or at another institution who agrees to serve as a mentor on the project.

Applications must be received in full by April 5 at 7 a.m. A selection committee composed of members of the Academy for Excellence in Education will review and rank all proposals.

Selections will be announced on May 3.
