VUMC Black History Month activities continue with Gladys Smith and Freddie Easley tomorrow and Jeffrey Upperman on Feb. 28

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and the African American Employee Resource Group (AAERG) will observe Black History Month with a series of activities and a calendar highlighting the contributions of African Americans from the VUMC and Nashville communities.

The AAERG, led by Kristy Sinkfield and Mamie Williams, will have a series of Lunch & Learn talks featuring colleagues with more than 40 years of service to Vanderbilt. Employees are encouraged to bring their lunch and listen to the stories of Howard Price, Odessa Settles, Gladys Smith and Freddie Easley in their “What It’s Like to be Me” video series. The sessions will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in Light Hall.

Vanderbilt Behavioral Health will also host the new Chair for Pediatric Surgery at Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital, Jeffrey Upperman, MD, for their Annual Black History Program and a special performance by the United Voices of Vanderbilt.

If you have any questions, or are interested in joining the AAERG, please email africanamerican.resource.group@vumc.org.
