This year it's not Flulapalooza -- it's FLUla-2-Uza

COVID-19 may have derailed Occupational Health’s annual Flulapalooza event this year, but it hasn’t spoiled the spirit inherent in the event. This year, a more personalized, but just as festive, approach is being taken, and the campaign is all about you. The concept of “flu to you” was a common theme in the nearly 170 submissions we received from colleagues suggesting names for this year’s iteration of our annual campaign. This theme, coupled with our trademarked Flulapalooza moniker, was too good to pass up.

In addition to having vaccinations at our clinic location in the Medical Arts Building, we’ll be bringing the flu vaccine to you in multiple ways, including on-site events in departments, stationary “pop-up” locations on campus, mobile carts within units, and via the Peer Vaccination Program (PVP). The PVP is an opportunity for clinical inpatient and outpatient units to be a positive influence and help promote community immunity. We encourage managers to start signing up vaccinators today.

We are also working to streamline the process by which vaccinations obtained at other Vanderbilt clinics, such as PCP offices, walk-in clinics, and Vanderbilt Health Walgreens locations, can be captured for compliance purposes. Be on the lookout for a message from Occupational Health that will allow you to consent to letting your Vanderbilt flu vaccine be sent to us without additional effort on your part.

We want to say a genuine thank you to everyone who participated in our flu campaign naming process, and a special thank you to Jim Kendall (Work/Life Connections) for coming up with “FLUla-2-Uza.” Also, thanks to Laura Baum (Hematology/Oncology), Terri Brown (HealthIT), and Hillary Spencer (Peds ID) for their “flu to you” entries that convinced us that the play on Flulapalooza would work. You can see the full list of all the fun, creative submissions we received here.
