Latest eStar updates and changes announced

 Chart Merge Indicators

To alert care team members to important patient information, new indicators will be available beginning September 30. These prompt team members to check another patient record for care-related information (patient has been marked for chart merge) and will impact all inpatient clinical users.

 The indicator appears in:

 Patient Storyboard

Overview for Summary Activity and Patient List Activity

New column in Patient List Activity (“Active Chart Merge” column must be manually added by user)

To add a new column to Patient List, refer to Tip Sheet “Customizing Patient List” (available in Hubbl).

Removal of Results Console from Abstract Encounter

As of Sept. 16, the Results Console has been removed from Abstract encounters. This will help ensure users enter external lab test results via the correct workflow (Enter/Edit Results), and maintain the ability to enter the correct reference range and appropriate resulting agency

Test results entered using the Results Console:

§  Appear as if internally resulted from Cerner (cannot enter the appropriate resulting agency)

§  Use default Cerner reference range (cannot enter the correct reference range)

Results correctly entered through Enter/Edit Results:

§  Correctly display as external

§  Use manually entered reference range from external lab

To be able to use Enter/Edit Results function, users must have completed eLearning in the Learning Exchange: “Manual Entry of External Labs into eStar”.

 Prescribing Fentanyl Patches at Discharge

To help limit callbacks from the outpatient pharmacy, prescribers should pay attention to Starting and First Fill fields when prescribing fentanyl patches at discharge. This is because some eStar will default administered inpatient fentanyl patches with multiple day frequencies (e.g., q72h) to a future starting and fill date.

 To address, clinicians should:

Locate Reconcile Medications for Discharge Tab in Discharge Navigator and click on Continue “+” button on Fentanyl Patch

If Starting Field is after today’s date and clinician wants prescription to be filled upon discharge, clinician should fill in today’s date in First Fill Field

New Previsit Column in Outpatient Whiteboard/Schedule

To allow clinicians to have more visibility into whether telehealth patients have completed the Previsit process, a new column in the outpatient whiteboard (OPWB)/schedule view displays whether the patient has completed Previsit steps necessary to join telehealth visit.

The new MHAV Previsit Status column will be available September 25 and guides decision-making on next steps (e.g., call the patient directly if Previsit has been completed)

Please note: the column will not automatically appear--clinicians must manually “wrench” it in. See Tip Sheet “Customizing Schedule Activity Columns” (available in Hubbl) for more information.
