New imaging system coming to VUMC

On October 25, a brand-new imaging system is coming to VUMC. SECTRA will be the official system for storing, managing and viewing images at the Medical Center. On the same day, we will also welcome a new eStar module just for Radiology, known as Radiant.
Critical items for users of Radiant to keep in mind as we get ready to welcome these new systems:
· Attend all training classes as scheduled
· Set aside some time to practice their new skills in the Radiant Playground
· Be on the lookout for important information concerning brand-new, high-impact workflows
Playground Practice
Important for all users of Radiant is time spent practicing the Playground. This is an opportunity to test out their new skills in a specially built environment of eStar populated with fictional, but realistic, patients. For more information on accessing the playground, view the Quick Start Guide, available in Hubbl. The Training team has also put together a short eLearning on using the Playground (available in the Learning Exchange): eStar Online: Radiant Accessing PLY.
Please note, the Playground environment was recently updated. A separate Playground, known as PLY 2, was created for the implementation of Cupid (the eStar cardiology module that went live in August) and Radiant. This standalone environment is no longer available. Users will access the Radiant Playground via PLY.
Viewing Images
With the finalization of the rollout of SECTRA on October 25, users across the Medical Center will have new tools to view study images. SECTRA UniView (its "light" client) will replace XERO Viewer and VueMotion (VWCH). SECTRA IDS7 (its "thick" client) will replace IMPAX. Radiologists and some other targeted users of IMPAX will receive in-person training from SECTRA to use IDS7.
Clinicians who access images directly from the patient's chart in eStar may continue to do so -- UniView will automatically display the image from the hyperlink. An optional UniView eLearning is currently available in the Learning Exchange: PACS Online: Online Enterprise PACS Web Viewer.
For those clinicians who do not receive in-person SECTRA training, but anticipate using the thick client (IDS7) of SECTRA, an eLearning is available in the Learning Exchange: PACS Online: Radiant SECTRA IDS7.
Our implementation of Radiant and SECTRA is an exciting step forward for our teams, allowing us to imagine many new possibilities. Because it is part of eStar, Radiant not only integrates seamlessly with the rest of our EHR, but allows us to benefit from regular updates from Epic to ensure we’re staying well ahead of what’s new in health care. Perhaps best of all for our users, we’re reducing the number of different systems users will have to rely on throughout the day.
Users of Radiant and SECTRA can expect to see some exciting benefits, including:
- · Improvements in reliability, performance and efficiency
- · Consolidation of intraprocedural documentation by tech, nurse and provider directly into eStar
- · Structured data and reports available natively in eStar, and improved data mining capabilities
- · Enhanced visibility of documentation
- · New top-of-the-line diagnostic capabilities
- · Additional imaging toolsets
- · Enhanced workflows to support viewing images on mobile platforms
