Update to Blood Workflow: Passive Antibody Alerts

To alert clinicians as to potential delays in issuance of red blood cell products, new alerts will appear December 9 related to passive antibodies on red blood cell orders.

The passive alerts will appear to nursing and providers for red blood cell orders, if the patient has a historical antibody ID on file. These alerts will appear on the:

§  Transfusion dashboard

§  Order composer

§  Transfusion release report (only appears if there is active order for red blood cells)

§  Nurse release tasks (only for red blood cell release tasks)

Update to Blood Workflow: No Positive Electronic Patient ID

Beginning December 9, there will be updates to the blood-related workflow around inpatient collection and no electronic positive patient identification. These updates will help prevent delays of care for patients needing blood transfusions.

For inpatient type/screen (LAB276) collection processes, if following logic applies, then a screen will appear that indicates that some information might be missing or requires attention:

§  Inpatient order mode

§  Type/Screen (Lab276)

§  Response of “No, a requisition with dual sign off will accompany sample”

§  No historical blood type at current location (e.g., VUMC vs. VWCH)
