VUMC sources quoted by Wall Street Journal, ABC News, Washington Post, more

William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, continues to be one of the most in-demand sources about COVID-19, influenza and other subjects in the news. Among the news organizations he has spoken with recently: CNN, NBC News,  ABC News, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, The Tennessean and HealthDay.

The first COVID vaccines to be given at VUMC were administered at an event in Light Hall on Thursday, Dec. 17, attended by Gov. Bill Lee and Commissioner of Health Lisa Piercey, MD. Robin Steaban, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital, vaccinated five COVID front-line workers. Those who received the first doses of the Pfizer vaccine include Tesha Akins, environmental technician; Lisa Flemmons, MSN, acute care nurse practitioner; Sophie Whitaker, registered respiratory therapist; Cody Hamilton, RN; and Todd Rice, MD, associate professor of Medicine in Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and director of the Medical ICU. Coverage of the event appeared at many news outlets, including The Tennessean, WSMV News 4, WZTV Fox 17 News, WPLN Nashville Public Radio, and WTVF News Channel 5.

The Washington Post breaking news video producer Allie Caren interviewed Wesley Self, MD, assistant professor of Emergency Medicine, for a story about COVID long haulers.

Psychology Today published an article written by Stephen Camarata, PhD, professor of Hearing and Speech Sciences, titled "What Does Science Say When the Science is Rescinded?"

US News & World Report published its story on vaccine volunteers that includes Ellen Rickert, whose father is a Vanderbilt physician.
