"NBC Nightly News" interviewed William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, for a story about a Kentucky student who is suing his school after he was barred from playing basketball because he refused to be vaccinated against the chickenpox. Schaffner also spoke to the Associated Press for a story about a resurgence of hepatitis A. The AP story was picked up by outlets including Fox News.
Stacie Dusetzina, PhD, associate professor of Health Policy, is quoted in an Axios story about the role of competition in driving down the price of drugs, and why competition doesn’t always work to do so.
U.S. News & World Report health editor Michael Schroeder interviewed Beth Malow, MD, director of the Vanderbilt Sleep Disorders Center, for a story about risk factors for REM sleep behavior disorder.
Reporters from WTVF News Channel 5 and WKRN News 2 covered this year’s Surgical ICU Great Saves event. Lisa Weavind, MD, associate professor of Anesthesiology and medical director of the Surgical ICU, was interviewed by both stations. The event was created to highlight former patients who required extreme life-saving measures. In VUMC’s care they all made incredible recoveries, and were eventually discharged out of the ICU.
