A roundup of a few recent stories from the press about Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

New York Times reporter Teresa Carr interviewed Nena Jan Bowman, PharmD, managing director of the Tennessee Poison Center, for a story about essential oils and using them safely with children.

WPLN Nashville Public Radio’s health care reporter Blake Farmer reported on changes in the national distribution system for organs that will result in organs being sent farther away for transplant. The final piece included interviews with VUMC transplant patient Jeffrey Wells and Seth Karp, MD, H. William Scott Jr. Professor of Surgery and chair of Surgical Sci. The piece aired on NPR’s “All Things Considered.”

NPR and The New York Post interviewed Stacie Dusetzina, PhD, associate professor of Health Policy, for a story headlined “Most health care industry profits go to drug companies.”

The Associated Press quoted David Calkins, PhD, Dennis M. O’Day, MBBS, Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, in a story headlined “Glaucoma research foundation kicks off the catalyst for a Cure Vision Restoration Initiative.”

Shape magazine reporter Julia Malacoff and Elemental reporter Garnet Henderson interviewed Eric Bowman, MD, for stories about blood flow restriction training.

Nashville Medical News selected Jeanne Wallace, DVM, attending veterinarian and vice president for Animal Care, to be in its “Women To Watch Class of 2019.”
