Reminder: Vanderbilt's Carmichael West Tower 3 to be imploded Saturday; roads to be closed during demolition

Vanderbilt University’s Carmichael West Tower 4 residence hall on West End Avenue will be demolished with a controlled implosion at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 27.

Roads adjacent to the building will be closed. Specifically, West End Avenue will close from 23rd Avenue to 25th Avenue at 8:30 a.m.

University and Nashville police will be on site, and a blast perimeter will be established, to keep the public at a safe distance. Occupants of buildings close to the implosion will be evacuated or required to remain indoors. The process is projected to take approximately seven minutes.

Once the implosion and checks to the site and surrounding areas are complete, traffic will reopen and mandatory restrictions will be lifted.

VUMC has contacted local EMS agencies to be sure they are aware of the building’s demolition and the changes in traffic flow resulting from it.

The adjacent Carmichael West Tower 4 will be taken down later this summer through mechanical demolition.

The buildings provided undergraduate housing and opened in 1970.
