Windows 10 installation on clinical workstations underway

The debut of Windows 10, the operating system for our workstations, will bring new features to users across Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Windows 10 also provides the ideal technology platform to help us continually improve and secure our systems and stay in sync with the Medical Center’s rapid growth.

The transition to Windows 10 will begin with a phased rollout to clinical workstations (CWS) across the Medical Center. CWSs are devices that are used for patient care and are typically shared—think of them as a shared computer with fixed features. As part of the upgrade, most CWSs will be replaced with new hardware.

IT teams will work directly with designated "site leaders" in areas across VUMC to ensure a smooth replacement of hardware and transitioning users to become familiar with using Windows 10. Site implementations will be carefully managed and staged to minimize disruption to patient care.
