eStar updates on specialty sticky notes, how to prevent common errors by closing patient chart, more
Specialty Sticky Notes
Epic has released a system update that prevents Specialty Sticky Notes from launching automatically when the chart is opened. Clinicians will not need to close or minimize the Specialty Sticky note to view and use the tools in the upper right-hand corner of their screen.
See Tip Sheet "Viewing Specialty Sticky Notes” (available in Hubbl) for more information.
Prevent Common Issues by Closing Patient Chart
If a clinician closes a VDI session before closing out a patient's chart, the note may be auto-saved, which prevents edits on that note. This means the clinician must create a new note and put in a chart correction request to delete the auto-saved note. To prevent this, clinicians should follow this order:
- Close patient chart
- Close Hyperspace
- Close VDI
Sometimes, clinicians may use a smartphrase to start a note and add data to be pulled into the note (e.g., visit diagnosis). If the clinician does not close the patient's chart before moving to a different computer, refreshing the note will produce an error. To prevent the error, the clinician should close the patient chart before moving to another computer.
Updates to Audiology Orders
To reduce unnecessary confusion among various Audiology orders and to better streamline the ordering process for clinicians, the following Audiology orders will be updated on August 7, 2019:
- Replaced Adult Hearing Evaluation (AUD200) with Comprehensive hearing test (AUD11)
- Replaced Peds Hearing Evaluation (AUD201) with Comprehensive hearing test (AUD11)
- Removed Pure tone audiometry air only (AUD210009)
- Added Tinnitus Evaluation (AUD410)
This change will impact all clinicians who place referrals for Audiology, as well as Audiology staff.
While the removed orders will be replaced in orders preference lists with new Comprehensive order options, the replacement process does not update any orders that have been “favorited”. Users should remove any of the replaced Audiology orders if they have been favorited by following the process below:
- From “patient chart orders” preference list, right click on favorited order and select “Remove Preference List Entry”
- From your Preference List Composer, select Remove Item
Domestic Partner Violence in Social History
To allow clinicians to more easily see critical aspects of a patient’s documented social history, the Social history SmartLinks (their copies and/or part of note templates) will now pull in intimate partner violence, if it has been filled out in Social History
This change is already live in eStar and will impact all ambulatory clinicians.
These SmartLinks will not appear in any patient-facing areas, such as the after-visit summary (AVS), patient instructions, patient messages, and/or sharing note(s) with patient, unless users pull in these SmartLinks.
Please review Tip Sheet “Documenting Partner Violence Now Pulls into Social History Smartlinks” (available in Hubbl) for more information
Inactive In Basket Pools
Recently, the eStar team reviewed In Basket pools and placed “ZZZ” in front of the names of inactive Pools (pools that should no longer be used).
However, deactivating the Pool does not remove it from a user’s “Pools and People I Manage” Dashboard. Pool owners should review their “Pools and People I Manage” Dashboard to locate any Pools that start with ZZZ and remove them from appearing in the dashboard. To do this, pool owners/clinic managers should:
- Open “Pools and People I Manage” Dashboard
- Open any In Basket Dashboard and select “Configure which pools and people you manage”
- Select a Pool that begins with ZZZ and click “Manage Pool”
- Click the X for each Person assigned to the Pool and click “Save”
- Once everyone is cleared from the In Basket Pool, users should remove the pool from their Dashboard
If users locate an In Basket Pool that begins with ZZZ that should be active, please place an In Basket Pegasus Request located here.
