eStar Updates and Changes

Link to Lexicomp Database

On Aug. 21, a new Lexicomp link will appear on the inpatient and clinic Medication Administration Record (MAR). It will be available when ordering medications for inpatient orders, discharge prescriptions and clinic-administered medications.

The new link allows all clinical users who enter orders or use the MAR to have

convenient access to the Lexicomp database. It also allows them to easily access drug reference links to Lexicomp from and during order entry.

Review Tip Sheet “Accessing Drug Reference Links to Lexicomp” (available in Hubbl) for more information.

New Indication Groups when Ordering Common Radiology Exams

The Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA) goes live on Jan 1, 2020, and requires that physicians ordering advanced imaging exams consult Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) through qualified Clinical Decision Support Mechanism (qCDSM). To comply with PAMA, beginning August 14, there are now three (3) new main indication groups from which to choose “Reason for Exam.” These groupings will appear when clinicians order CT, MR, NM and PET exams.

The new main Indication Groups are:

  • Common Indications (based on those used most nationally – will be updated regularly)
  • Oncology Indications
  • Trauma Indications

The “Other” Indications group is now gone. Depending on the specific radiology order placed, clinicians may see other indication groups/options (e.g., Cardiology). They can also search in “Reason for Exam” search field if the right indication is not in one of the groupings. Clinicians can save exam indication combination as favorite in preference lists.

The Tip Sheet “Improving Radiology Imaging Orders – Reason for Exam” (available in Hubbl) has more information, including tips for indication searching.
