eStar Update: Managing ABN alerts for diagnostic labs
Some diagnostic lab orders may trigger an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN). Beginning September 4, clicking on Waiver Form allows specimen-receiving staff in the Diagnostic Lab to select a specific override ABN reason. This ABN reason has been approved through compliance to provide the appropriate audit tracking.
- When an order triggers an ABN, click on Waiver Form to address the notice.
- In the Advance Notice Form window, select the magnifying glass next to the Notice status field to open the Category Select options.
- Choose Billed to Client, no ABN required (Diagnostic Lab) and Accept.
- Upon returning to the Advance Notice Form window, select Accept again.
- The order can now be signed
