VA campus to go smoke-free on Oct. 1

Following a national mandate from the Department of Veterans Affairs, hospitals of the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System will ban smoking in its hospitals and clinics on on its campuses on Oct. 1. This includes the VA hospital adjacent to VUMC's campus, meaning there will no longer be a designated smoking area anywhere on the campus of the VA.

In a news release, the VA said the new smoke-free policy applies to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, any other combustion of tobacco and non-Federal Drug Administration approved electronic nicotine delivery systems, including but not limited to electronic or e-cigarettes, vape pens or e- cigars.
