Flu vaccination exemption requests due by Oct. 1

Getting your annual flu shot is one of most important things you can do to prevent the spread of influenza. VUMC faculty and staff are required to receive their flu shot or have an approved exemption by Dec. 1, but the CDC recommends people be vaccinated by the end of October.

Flu vaccines are available now for all employees through multiple channels that can be found on the Employee Influenza Vaccine Program website.

For faculty and staff who would like to request an exemption for the annual influenza vaccination all requests must be submitted by Oct. 1.

As noted in the VUMC Immunization Program policy, exemptions may be requested due to medical reasons, severe allergy to a vaccine component, or a deeply held religious or spiritual belief against immunizations.

The Exemption Review Committee evaluates exemption requests on a case-by-case basis.

Faculty and staff who have been granted an exemption in prior years will have their exemption carry over to this year, so there is no need to reapply.
